Plain version: this website collects nothing about you. The map application, when it opens, will hold an account and whatever you choose to put in it, and will not sell or share any of it.

This website

uplandmaps.com is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no fonts, scripts, trackers or images from anyone else. There are no advertising or social media pixels. Nothing you do on this page is reported anywhere.

Dismissing the notice at the bottom of the home page stores a single flag (um-notice-seen) in your browser's local storage so the notice stays dismissed. It is not a cookie, it is never transmitted, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Our web server keeps ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. They are not used to build any profile of you and are discarded on a rolling basis.

The site is served through Cloudflare, which sits in front of it and therefore sees every request, as any host or CDN would. Cloudflare's own server-side request counts are unavoidable for anything served through them, and are not tied to you as an individual.

Cloudflare also rewrites pages on the way out in two ways we did not author. It offers an analytics script it can insert automatically; this site's Content Security Policy blocks that from loading, so it does not run and reports nothing. It also scrambles email addresses to frustrate address harvesters, which adds a small script of its own (/cdn-cgi/scripts/…/email-decode.min.js) to unscramble them for you. That one is served from this domain, does no tracking, and exists only so a spam robot cannot read our address off the page.

If you email us

Mail sent to an address on this site reaches a normal mailbox. We keep it so we can reply and, if you asked to hear when the map opens, so we can tell you. Ask us to delete it and we will.

The map application

The application is not open to the public yet. When it is, this section will be replaced with its full terms. What is intended:

Aggregated information

We may produce and share aggregated, de-identified information — counts, totals, distributions and similar summaries — with conservation agencies, research bodies, land managers and other partners, including on a paid basis. This is information from which you, your account and the location of any individual mark cannot reasonably be identified or re-derived.

Where such a summary could point at a specific covert or a specific person, it is not shared. Your individual marks and their coordinates are never included, and no such summary is produced at a resolution fine enough to make one out.

Other people's maps

Aerial imagery, base maps and public land data come from public sources and mapping providers. Loading a map means requesting map tiles, and those requests reach the provider serving them, as they would in any map application.

Children

This is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete what is held about you, and to object to its processing. Write to [email protected] and we will deal with it. Since this website collects nothing, such a request will almost always concern the application or an email you sent.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it.
